Our History:

With a few days after the hurricane at the request of the Mayor of Lake Charles, the Human Services Resource Initiative was formed. Led by Family & Youth Counseling Agency, it was comprised of representatives from area non-profit, government and faith-based organizations to insure that accurate and current information regarding the availability of programs and services to address the mounting needs from the hurricanes.

The group met on a weekly basis and provided a network through which agencies and organizations could remain informed about services and programs that responded to needs such as sustenance, housing/shelter, safety, recreation & child care, medical and legal services and more. Over time it became apparent that this body would need to enlarge their focus and activities to more directly deliver services and support based upon the identified needs.

As a result, the Calcasieu Long Term Recovery Group (Cal-LTR) was established and elected Officers in September 2006. The Human Services Resource Initiative became the Human Services Response Institute that would provide case management services to those impacted and is one of the more than 40 participating organizations within the Cal-LTR Group.
